The work sits at the intersection of operational understanding and software design.
Many system problems are not fundamentally programming problems. They arise because the organisation has not clearly represented the relationships between assets, work, evidence, resources, responsibility and decisions.
Our approach is therefore to start with the operating problem.
What needs to happen? What information is required? Who makes the decision? What evidence supports it? What systems already hold part of the answer?
Only then does the technology choice become useful.
A practical approach
We favour systems that are understandable, inspectable, adaptable, capable of integration and based on useful structured data.
Not every problem requires a large enterprise platform. Equally, not every spreadsheet needs to become a custom application.
The objective is to use an appropriate level of system structure for the operational problem.
Current work
Current development increasingly uses DSLCore, which provides a common platform for modelling and generating specialised operational applications.
This allows concepts developed through maintenance and asset-management work to be applied to areas including mining, infrastructure, government, maritime and renewable energy.
